Oops. In my last comment, I meant you need to read the short story in the FIRST book of Dragonlance Tales. I believe it's called Legacy.

Dragonlance Chronicles and Dragonlance Legends were my favorite fantasy books ever. Loved the characters and the stories. After that, other authors picked up the ball and continued writing more Dragonlance stories, but they weren't the same.

If you enjoy those two series, then you also need to read the short story by Weiss and Hickman in the 3rd book of Dragonlance Tales.
