21 Grams
Posted on Oct 19, 2005 in MoviesMe and Sara just watched 21 Grams on DVD yesterday and wow do I feel silly to have put off watching it for such a long time. This movie is one of the better drama films I’ve seen for some time. The story is about a short period of time in the lives of three persons: Raul Rivers played by Sean Penn who is slowly dying of heart disease, Cristina Peck played by Naomi Watts who is a mother in mourning and Jack Jordan played by Benicio Del Toro who is a repeat felon turned devout christian. The story tells of a terrible accident that brings these three people together in a gripping and fascinating way. The movie itself is directed in a interesting fashion where the story is told in a non linear way and contains a lot of jumping between scenes so you have to keep your mind at work to work the whole story out but every time a new scene comes up you get another piece of the puzzle and in the end you get to know what happened throughout the film. All of the actors preform nicely and especially Del Toro which really shows a tortured soul who can’t seem to find his place in the world. This film is a must see.
Rating: 4/5
This is the story of three gentle persons: Paul Rivers (Penn) an ailing mathematician lovelessly married to an English emigré (Gainsbourg), Christina Peck, an upper-middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two little girls, and Jack Jordan (Del Toro), an ex-convict who has found in his Christian faith the strength to raise a family. They will be brought together by a terrible accident that will change their lives. By the final frame, none of them will be the same as they will learn harsh truths about love, faith, courage, desire and guilt, and how chance can change our worlds irretrievably, forever.
