I finally saw Slumdog Millionaire last week. It’s been constantly touted as one of the best movies of 2008 having swept 8 Oscars including Best Motion Picture of the Year in the last Oscar award ceremony.

Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of the 18 year old Jamal Malik who is a contestant on the Indian “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”. Jamal does really great on the show but the producers believe he has somehow cheated and as such he is questioned by the local police before finishing the show. The interrogation by the police makes Jamal tell his life’s story and how what has happened to him growing up in the slums of India has enabled him to answer the questions he was asked on the show.

The movie is really split in two, telling the story of Jamal growing up and then skipping along to the quiz show regularly to show how the answers to the show’s questions are relayed to Jamal through out his life.

I felt that the movie was great and a worthy watch for anyone but it was not the movie of the year 2008 in my opinion.
