A History of Violence

I just saw David Cronenberg’s new film today: A History of Violence. The movie is about a average family man that turns out to be more than he says he is when he is confronted by gangsters about his past. The movie is really tacky at most times, there are a lot of useless scenes and some really really horrid violence scenes that are borderline horror film stuff. There are also some really graphic sex scenes but the actors just seemed to be trying to much and they become dump looking. The film is based on a comic book and tries to follow it very accurately but maybe it’s just trying to hard and that’s the reason the film just turns out to be boring rehashed stuff that I’ve seen before. Most people that like the film talk about “ohh the hidden subtext and artistic value” but come on some of this is just you trying to be elitist assholes. This film blows and I’m less of a person for having spend my time watching this crap instead of studying math…

Based on the graphic novel by John Wagner and Vince Locke, A History of Violence is the tale of Tom Stall. Tom is a loving family man and well-respected citizen of a small Indiana town. But when two savage criminals show up at his diner, Tom is forced to take action and thwart the robbery attempt. Suddenly heralded as a hero who took the courage to stand up to crime, people look up to Tom as a man of high moral regard. But all that media attention has the likes of mobsters showing up at his doorstep, charging that Tom is someone else they’ve been looking for. Is it a case of mistaken identity or does Tom have a history that no one knows about? Either way, someone’s about to find out if there’s a history of violence.
