Angels and Demons
Posted on Jun 2, 2009 in MoviesI recently saw Angels and Demons based on Dan Brown’s book with the same title. The original book was actually published and set before the Da Vinci Code while the movie is set as a sequel. The story of the movie is that researchers have managed to harvest and contain anti-matter which gets stolen as soon as they have the matter contained. At the same time the pope has recently passed away and the Catholic cardinals are setting up the vote for a new pope. The thief who took the anti-matter then goes on to threaten to blow up Vatican City and has kidnapped the four cardinals most favored for the role of pope. Because of all this Robert Langdon the now famous symbolist gets called in to help stop the mad man.
The movie is pretty much in the same league as The Da Vinci Code, a quick paced action adventure stomp fest with little pause for thought or the viewer to sit back and actually think about what’s going on. Which if one actually does, this movie just like the book is totally ridiculous but still manages to be entertaining if you’re looking for mindless entertainment. Now on the other hand if you’ve read the book you already know the big plot twists in the movie which I felt they handled really well and for someone that hadn’t read the book before seeing the film they most likely came of great. But as someone who had read the book I felt a tad bit bored and would suggest that those that have read the book just see this on DVD and don’t bother seeing it in the cinema.
