The Wrestler

I saw The Wrestler a short while ago but somehow forgot to post about this masterpiece. The Wrestler stars Mickey Rourke as Randy “The Ram” Robinson a run down wrestler who used to be famous in the 80s. He is now working in a supermarket and does weekend wrestling shows to make ends need while keeping his body fueled with various questionable supplements.
The movie tells “The Ram”’s story as he befriends a stripper who is in a similar situation to him where she’s older than most of the girls in her club in the same way that Randy is getting older and older in the wrestling world as well. He has a daughter which he’s neglected for years but as he feels himself getting older he wants to renew his relationship with her. Randy plans to take on one final big match to try and rekindle his former glory but is set back by an onset heart attack.
The movie goes through this tale and what happens next with every actor giving great performances and the movie as a whole is amazing. IF you have not seen this movie go grab it as soon as it comes out on DVD.

For those that have seen the movie, here is a nice parody to the movie with Mickey Rourke replaced by Uncle SAM as he tries to deal with the current economy:
